Based in Laois, Ireland, Margaret Hennessy brings emotion, landscape, and color to life through contemporary visual art. Every canvas tells a distinct story designed to spark conversation and evoke personal connection in any space.

Margaret Hennessy is a self-taught artist, based in Laois, Ireland. Margaret’s art practice began in her twenties; however, family and work took over, and her art practice was placed on the back burner.  Margaret got back into her art when her young family became less dependent on her. 

Margaret completed many varying art courses with Irish and international artists like Justin Wood in San Fransico and Christopher Bell in Italy.

Nature, the natural world, has always been a fascination for Margaret.  Working primarily in oils, but also mixed media and linocut prints, her work captures the shifting atmospheric conditions, transient light, and quiet solitude of rural landscapes and open skies. Drawing from direct observation and emotional memory, Margaret translates the raw elements of nature into textured, evocative surfaces that explore our connection to the physical terrain.

Folklore is another aspect that interests Margaret, and she feels that it is so important that Irish Folklore is not forgotten or allowed to become just fairy tales.  Margaret paints evocative pictures capturing elements of Irish folklore
